Beerwin's World of Stuff

things for, on and about web

Newsflash

Due to lack of interest in my destop projects (PlainHTML, ShutDownerXP, and newly, WE editor), i decided to shut down all activity regarding desktop projects, this time for good.

In the meantime, i've found my code editor of choice, in the great Eclipse editor, so this is another reason not to develop "yet another web editor". Many third-party components used in my projects are too much buggy, to continue development, some of them outdated, and i don't have time to fix them all. It's a waste of my time, and it will lead to nothing. I'm committing my time to PHP development from this time forward.

The BWS project will be cut down to a minimum, and the forum section will be shut down. I will archive the site, and remove pretty much everything not related to PHP development and web design.

I am introducing a new feature: Logging in with GMail account credentials.

I believe, this will be a good idea, since it won't require to register on the BWS site.

I began to upload some new kind of stuff, widening the content scope of this site. When new information is too valuable to be collected by different content bots, i will put them behind authentication.

User accounts created for the forum are member accounts, thus enabling for you to see these internal articles.

There is a new template available on BWS: Silver Plating

This is a new template for larger sites, portals, community sites, galleries, etc.

I want to see it

Old web templates were dropped, because they are out-of-date did not comply with today's standards, and many more reasons.

Those templates will not be available anymore.

Why BWS was offline?

A couple of days ago, a thunderstorm disrupted my radio connection and i went offline for two days. During this time, my site was attacked (reported by my hosting provider) and broken. The entire site went offline because of a now removed code injection. The thing came from a hidden security hole, which i detected only today. The hole is now patched.

No visitor was infected, because the site was rendered inoperable by hidden security measures implemented to serve as a last resort in the case of such kind of attacks. These security measures disabled the BWS website, instead of showing the defective site.

I apologize for this!

Donate!

You can make your donation here, or by clicking on the Donate button on the left side of the page. That button is not visible when this page is open.

Couple of months ago i decided to raise some funds with my project site. There were three alternatives: to show advertisements on the site, to charge a small fee for each download/registration, and to put a donate button on the site.

I found the last alternative to be the least aggressive, and i do not wish to turn my current projects into commercial stuff.

Advertisements tend to slow down a website, but this is not the real objection against them. Automated ad systems often display advertisements, that are not compatible with this site's objective.

Of course, there will be some commercial web templates on my site, but they will not be introduced yet in the near future.

Donation will not give anybody preferential status.Exeptions:
  • Donors may get new PlainHTML releases before public releases.
  • Donors will get honorary project membership and their name will be published on this site (if they agree to this)
Anyone, who helped me or donated:

Here are some people, who helped BWS otherwise than donation

Lorincz Lajos - Hosting, domain registering and web services.

Kathryn Schwartz - donation

Wayne MACLELLAN - donation

Prof. Rafael Soares de Almeida - for his book: Aprendendo HTML com o PlainHTML 7 para Inciantes

New design all across beerwin.com

bwspng_micro

As You can see, BWS has changed again. I decided to throw away anything is not necessary, and to keep up with much fewer projects. This contains PlainHTML and ShutDowner on the desktop side, and a few web templates on the Web side.

I believe, that a new, streamlined site, with a clear and easy to navigate content will be more useful, than a cluttered portal system.
